Vodka and caviar, anyone?

Vodka and caviar, anyone?

Take a cue from Tolstoy’s Russian Heroine Anna Karenina to create an aristocratic wedding theme.

You don't have to be of Russian heritage to enjoy the luxuries in life. Whether you're a movie lover, history buff or truly are of Russian descent, planning your wedding theme around Russian aristocracy is a great theme to create a seriously luxurious wedding day.

Think Rich
Get inspired to recreate an old-world feel by using beautiful jewel tones, pearls, fur and other rich textures to decorate your ceremony and reception locations. For an outdoor wedding ceremony and reception, a big, Russian circus-style tent emulates a dramatic period in aristocratic history. Gold chairs with white cushioned seats make for lovely outdoor seating. Use the same seats around reception tables in the outdoor tent to create palace-inspired decor.

Whether you have your reception indoors or outdoors, make sure to decorate the reception site with an old-world, aristocratic touch. Think crystal chandeliers with gold accents, fine china and lots of candle holders with crystal accents to help bounce romantic lighting around the space. If diamonds and crystals aren't your style, try strands of pearls instead to keep with the luxurious feel.

Dress Code
During the time of imperial Russia, there was a definite division in class rules and expectations, including dress codes. Embrace your inner princess and make your big day a black tie affair. Floor-length gowns and tuxedo-adorned guests will make your wedding event feel extra special, especially as guests twirl around on the dance floor.

Wedding industry experts are predicting that in the next few years, wedding themes will continue to reflect the styles of glamorous, romantic eras. When selecting your own wedding dress, think about design elements such as intricate beading, ornate lace details, metallic accents and decadent fabrics to stay in tune with the royal glamor portrayed by this time period.

We love Modeca by Enzoani's Olivia-M ball gown, which features beading and lace, a high neckline, gorgeous beaded belt and court length train. The beige color is unexpected, but regal in style.

The Venus Bridal ball gown VS2210 style looks like it was made for tragic Russian heroine Anna Karenina. Silky organza material provides a lot of movement to the ball gown style while the asymmetrical ruffled gown and shoulder baring sleeveless top are both regal and classy. Have fun by opting for the peach toned style, or stay traditional in an ivory or white gown.

Skip the veil and instead opt for a unique headpiece adorned with jewels, pearls, feathers or lace to emulate the fashion of the time period. The Serendipity Tiaras and Jewelry Haley Rhinestone Floral Comb are perfect for a one-sided updo while the Sara Gabriel Lone Veil is a great piece that adds a bit of mystery as you walk down the aisle. A Russian-inspired wedding is the perfect occasion to rock lots of pearls, diamonds and jewels, so you can throw the "less is more" saying out the window under these circumstances.
