Using Pantone's color of the year in your 2014 nuptials

Using Pantone’s color of the year in your 2014 nuptials is both fun and easy

Pantone has come out with the color of the year for 2014: radiant orchid! This beautiful shade is similar to fuchsia and contains purple undertones.

"Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health," Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said in a news release. "It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm."

These are all feelings that are represented at weddings, making it a perfect shade for anyone's big day. This hue can truly be used in a variety of different ways for your nuptials, but here are a few of our favorites:

Rehearsal dinner dress
If you love this color of the year, but still want to stick with a traditional white gown, you can pick out a fun orchid-colored dress to wear to the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding.

Bridesmaid dresses
Your girls will be trendsetters if they wear dresses in the shade of the year. Even though this is a color most often associated with summer and spring, it can easily be pulled off for fall and winter nuptials as well. Let everyone express their individual style by simply offering guidelines when going dress shopping. Maybe the bridesmaids have to adhere to a certain length and color family, but can choose the shade and neckline. Your bridal party will look coordinated, while being comfortable to boot.

Reception table runner
Bring a bright pop of color to your reception tables by laying down a radiant orchid table runner. For your centerpieces, pick blooms of contrasting colors, like white or yellow. You can also choose buds in the same color family for a blended look. Scatter candles of various sizes and shapes across the table runner in between vases of flowers to give off a subtle yet warm and romantic glow. Match your tablecloth to radiant orchid-colored napkins.

Shoes
Accent your beautiful white dress with a bold splash of Pantone's color of the year. Coordinate your bright shoes by painting your nails the same hue. You could also rock a big statement necklace in radiant orchid. This shade will photograph beautifully in wedding pictures.

Cake
Even your sweet treat can incorporate this stunning shade. Have your baker create a pattern using orchid-colored stripes, fun dots or chevron lines against a background of white buttercream frosting. You could also choose to have bright ribbons wrapped around each cake tier. Top off your dessert with some radiant orchid flowers.
