Ranunculus Flower – Flower Fridays

The Romanticist, Ranunculus

The rosette-shaped ranunculus flower is one of the most popular choices for wedding floral. They are the perfect addition to the bouquet, boutonnieres, centerpieces, and even the cake decorations! Each bloom is fairly small, usually only 1-4 inches in diameter, with an abundant gathering of fine, papery petals. Their thin, nearly translucent petals give these flowers a soft, crepe-like feel.

Meaning and Uses

These luscious little flowers are members of the buttercup family. This is why some growers refer to them as “Persian Buttercups”. In the Victorian language of flowers, they conveyed a message of deep desire and told the recipient that she was rich in attractions and brimming with radiant charm. Throughout its history, the ranunculus has been prized as a sentimental flower capable of expressing the deepest feelings of love and longing. It’s romantic symbolism has made this flower a popular choice for weddings and anniversaries.

Floral Characteristics and Availability

These delicate buds are naturally available in many vibrant colors such as purple, pink, magenta, red, burgundy, orange, yellow, and white. They have a good lasting time at 3-7 days and most blooms are available with either a dark, green, or yellow center. Their small size and dazzling looks make them a great accent between larger flowers. They bloom between December and May, which makes them an ideal choice for winter or spring weddings. So many brides fall in love with these flowers because they are inexpensive, luxurious, and oh so romantic!

Although ranunculus blooms are smaller than many other popular wedding flowers, these bright, distinctive flowers can hold their own in a bouquet! They can even become the star of the show as in this lovely white, green, and yellow bouquet.
