One wedding theme that never goes out of style

Audrey Hepburn is one classy lady – get inspired and create a wedding theme inspired by the much loved “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

If you want to ensure your wedding day is classy, turn to the oldie, but goody Breakfast at Tiffany’s for your wedding theme. Whether you’re planning your nuptials in the Big Apple, love Tiffany’s or are a Audrey Hepburn fan, pearls, a blue, white and black wedding color palette, and a good cake will keep your guests reminiscing years after your wedding day.

Bling, bling

Because the opening scene of the film begins with Ms. Hepburn (aka Holly Golightly) looking into the Tiffany’s jewelry store window, it’s only fitting that this sophisticated wedding theme incorporate sparkles into the decor. A reception hall with crystal chandeliers is a great way to add a little sparkle to the dance floor, while adorned candle holders cast romantic lighting and set the mood for dinner.

Whether your ring is actually from Tiffany’s or not, be sure to wear some eye-catching jewelry as part of your wedding day attire. A chunky pearl necklace makes a bold, vintage statement while a single pearl pendant is an option for a more dainty effect. This wedding theme is the perfect occasion to gift your bridesmaids with a set of pearls to wear with their dresses.

Something Blue

Don’t get too hung up on trying to match your blue hue to the name brand jeweler’s – as long as you can get within a shade or two, no one will really notice the difference. Think about using the color to ink your wedding invitations and place cards for a subtle effect. Bright blue table cloths on the reception tables make for a fun pop, while blue lighting techniques help set the mood.

We love the idea of using classic LBDs as bridesmaids’ dresses – even better, shape the dresses with a satin blue ribbon tied at the waist for a modern take on the classic Hepburn style! Of course, you can always choose a style in the blue hue – let the girls pick the dress style that best fits their body type to keep the wedding attire fresh, rather than outdated.

For the dessert, request a squared, tiered cake to be decorated with blue fondant and a white ribbon. This will recreate the staple Tiffany’s jewelry box. Chocolate cake really pops against the frosting color, but it’s your wedding cake, so pick what you love! If you want a funky cake design, stick with the color scheme of blue, black and white, but ask your baker to create a unique design for each layer.

Your wedding dress

When searching for your wedding dress, look to Hepburn’s classic black dress in the opening scenes of the movie to get inspired. A classic sheath silhouette is perfect for a petite, athletic or tall body. Gals rocking a pear-shaped figure could try an A-line tea length dress – you know, something you could wear from the courthouse onto a plane to Paris! A high mesh, beaded neckline is universally flattering and is a great way to accessorize without having to purchase a new necklace.

A Tiffany’s wedding theme is the perfect excuse NOT to wear towering heels. Instead, opt for a kitten heel with a pointed toe. This type of style is ladylike, and you’ll be able to wear this shoe all night long! For you ladies who have to have a minimum heel height of at least three inches, take the opportunity to find a peep-toe pump in a similar shade to the color scheme.

Flowers galore

Keep the bouquet pretty, but simple. We like an all-white palette of carnations, roses and peonies for a luscious look. If you want to add a little pop of color, try light blue hydrangeas or seeded eucalyptus to keep the color soft so it doesn’t clash with the other blue elements. Ask your wedding florist to wrap the stems with blue ribbon as another color alternative.
