How to incorporate prints into your wedding day decor

Make a bold statement with chevron printed invitations or bridesmaids dresses!

When it comes to selecting a color scheme for their wedding, most brides tend to stick with solid colors. To make an extra bold, yet tasteful statement on your big day, why not spice things up and incorporate prints into your decor? Whether you prefer the look of small polka dots and thin stripes, or something with a little edge to it, like a vibrant chevron or floral print, these decor ideas will definitely leave a lasting impression on your guests. Here's how to integrate some designs into your wedding day:

Chevron
This hot pattern has been making a statement in the fashion world. Within the last year or so, chevron has gained popularity in the wedding industry as well. From bold, vibrant zigzags on your contemporary wedding invitations, to tiny prints on your wedding cake or bridesmaids dresses, this pattern adds an element of fun and whimsy to your wedding decor! Keep the look classic with a black and white or navy and white pattern. Yellow and hot pink chevron patterns are great for summer weddings.

Polka dots
Polka dots are a great way to add texture and playfulness to your wedding day. For a fun, youthful vibe, have your groomsmen wear polka dot printed ties in a flashy hue! A little dose of polka dot ribbon goes a long way to spruce up your invitation designs as well.

For an ode to vintage, try a polka dot printed veil. The added texture looks stunning in  photographs. You can also skip the veil altogether and instead wear a wedding gown with a sheer, polka dot overlay to it. Keep the hemline short and opt for a headpiece to channel a 1950s look for your vintage wedding theme.

Damask
Are you hosting a chic, sophisticated wedding ceremony and reception? What better way to announce a black and white wedding celebration than with a bold black and white damask print on your invitations. From tiny prints to enlarged designs, the damask print is one of the oldest, most luxurious patterns to date. The elegant design was created in the early Middle Ages and became popular during the 18th century when interior designers from Spain, France and Italy began to use them in the home.

Add texture to your tableware with a printed damask tablecloth or table runner. Use vibrant bouquets and centerpieces to add a splash of color to the otherwise monochromatic design. Red roses, pink peonies or yellow hyacinths are excellent flower choices!

Floral
One of the most common decorations brides use on the day of their wedding is a floral design, but most of them don't know it. Lace wedding gowns are the perfect example of how bride's bring in a floral component into the decor in an understated way. This elegant, traditional fabric is perfect for bringing texture and ornament into your attire without drawing too much attention to the pattern itself.

For those brides who want to incorporate a more spirited floral pattern into their wedding day, we have several suggestions:

– Have your bridesmaids wear dresses with a pretty print on them. The flower design can be small and subtle or choose a pattern with large flower heads for a more lively look.

– If you feel a flower printed dress is a little too busy, why not have your bridesmaids (or yourself for that matter) wear floral heels?

– For an art deco look, ask your baker to use water color food dye to paint flowers onto the fondant of your wedding cake. The pretty, colorful print is unexpected and oh-so pretty.
