Concept: All that Shapes Us: Modern, geometric centerpieces in jewel tones
Client: National Association for Catering and Events (NACE)
Event: NACE Awards Gala
For this luxuriously modern event, the client requested eight unique centerpiece designs. With a theme that was equal parts edgy and elegant, they also required that each centerpiece feature some sort of geometric element. With these requirements in mind, we crafted eight distinctly different centerpieces; six chevron, five triangle, eight round, two square, five rectangle, and seven pentagon (3 low, 4 high). In total, 225 containers were used throughout the whole event. It was a BIG undertaking, but our amazing team didn’t miss a beat!
Design dilemma… centerpieces cannot be higher than 14 inches tall.
Solution: drop the center of the table down!
This table was one of our favorites to design. We stacked a variety of 11 gold vases on top of each other to create a gilded tower. Each tier was crowned with jewel-toned carnations and stock, vibrant dahlias and cockscomb, and tempered with lightly colored roses and allium giganteum. Kim from The Event Essentials designed these beautiful chevron pattern menus. To echo this design element, the tables were arranged in a zig zag pattern down the length of the room. With the geometric requirement satisfied by the placement of the tables themselves, we decided to go for a simpler, more subtle look for the centerpieces. This way we were able to accent the incredible table style and make it the focal point of the design.
With the help of clear wire, individual orchid, coxcomb, and allium giganteum blooms seemed to magically float in the center of these gold pyramid centerpieces. No one said geometric had to mean symmetrical! The skewed structure of the pyramids added dynamic edginess and intrigue to the design.
Repeating the powerful pyramid motif, the 3 rectangle tables used for this area were arranged into a triangle formation. These Lucite tables were simply adorned with our minimalist centerpieces and paired with a sparkling gold glitter table runner.
Nothing says ‘modern’ like deconstruction. You’ve probably noticed this term in other industries too, like cooking and fashion design. Essentially, to “deconstruct” means to divide something into its most basic parts and arrange them in a new way. The goal is to create something new that may change the way we understand the original.
We deconstructed these centerpieces into their basic floral parts and rearranged them into homogenous bunches. What does this mean? Each vase contains only one type of flower in one color. By arranging them this way, it makes the color scheme stand out and it allows you to see the unique texture and shape of each type of flower. This way, the flowers themselves become part of the geometric theme. Pretty cool!
We love how these elevated centerpieces looked when paired with the LED Lucite table from Kool. Party Rentals! When lit up, it looked just like the centerpieces were floating on a wave of light. The effect was beyond dazzling! Glowing furniture certainly makes an impressive statement!
We absolutely LOVED the table numbers from Creative Occasions. Clear, mirrored, or with bling, each table number was completely different. Classic Party Rentals provided stunning chargers that added a whole new dimension to every tablescape. The gorgeous table linen from Creative Coverings really pulled each look together nicely, acting as the perfect canvas to show off each centerpiece. Thanks to a strong design concept and color theme, each element worked together and the finished room looked fabulous!
We may be a little biased, but the stage display was our favorite detail of the night! We created a piece with modern flare using geometric sculptures adored with floating flowers. Orchids bared all with their roots hanging out, while calla lilies added a contemporary element as they appeared to “float” alongside the gold boxes. Tall stalks of purple allium giganteum towered over a bed of dahlias, giving a whimsical twist on the garden box concept. We had so much fun letting our imaginations run wild as we brought this design to life!
A special thanks for everyone who donated their time and services! It was a thrill to work with all these talented vendors.
