Cake ideas for your autumn wedding

For your fall wedding, you can craft a big day that is seasonally fit without making it seem like it's a Thanksgiving or Halloween themed occasion. A great idea is to use a trendy autumn color palette in a subtler sense. If you are using yellow, orange and brown for your wedding color palette, you can use these hues as more of an accent.

For instance, instead of using bold, deep yellows, you can lighten your ceremony up a bit by using pastel shades or pairing it with more neutral colors like cream and white. Instead of using all the colors of fall, select just a couple! Here are some fabulous cake ideas for a fall wedding that are sure to be just right and far from holiday themed.

Brown wedding cakes
An easy way to create an autumn-appropriate cake without too much holiday essence is to embrace the brown hues of your color palette through chocolate! Devil's food cake is the perfect chocolatey treat and can be used with almost any other color to make it's seasonably fit! Martha Stewart Weddings recently suggested a marvelous six-tiered devil's food wedding cake that used deep chocolate hues for the icing and dressed it up by decorating every other tier in rich, red edible flowers.

Another twist on the classic chocolate cake is to tone down the color by using brown fondant instead of classic fudgy frosting. The fondant will lighten up the color of the cake while still implementing a rustic autumnal palette. You can add a level of elegance to the cake by having your baker embellish the tiers in white royal icing designs.

Yellow wedding cakes
We found an amazing cake design on Martha Stewart Weddings that we just had to share. The design is said to have been inspired by Van Gogh's famous painting of sunflowers. This simple, three-tiered cake with textured yellow frosting and show-stopping sunflower designs could be the perfect cake design for a golden color palette! The sunflower petals were made by oven-drying piped meringue and securing them on each golden tier.
