Cactus Wedding Favors? Yes, Please!

Cactus Wedding Favors, The Perfect Handout for Your Warm-Weather Wedding!

Cacti are some of the most underrated plants in the wedding industry. When picturing a cactus, people tend to think only of the tall, prickly Saguaros that you’d expect to see in an old western film. Actually, cacti come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and hues. Their unique look and easy availability makes them an ideal, if unexpected, choice for wedding décor. With their ability to flourish in the hottest temperatures, cacti are the perfect plants for a warm-weather wedding. For a true taste of the Southwest, consider using cacti in one of these creative ways:

Invitations

Set a desert vibe by sending out invitations with a cactus or succulent embellishment. There are over 2,000 different cactus varieties and even more succulent varieties beyond that, so you’re sure to find a look that suits your style. If you’re feeling adventurous you can even surprise your guests by including some cactus candy!

Cake

Top your cake with a beautiful succulent – or a few of them! Succulents come in a medley of colors ranging from soft minty greens, deep reds and vibrant oranges, to even delicate lavender and blue tones. We love how these plants provide a bit of color and natural texture to your confection without taking the spotlight away from the dessert itself. Make sure to consult with your florist to find the perfect succulents for your wedding cake.

Favors

Send your guests home with cacti of their own! Not only are they beautiful, but they also require very little attention when it comes to watering and maintainance. All they need is a brightly lit area and a bit of water now and then to stay healthy. Present them in pots customized with your names and wedding date, or decorate them with your wedding colors. For a little less work, you can leave the pots alone and put your personalized touch on a note with care instructions for the plant.

Bouquet

An arrangement of diverse succulents creates a stunning display to match your southwestern themed wedding. The wide assortment of available colors makes it easy to find the perfect match for your wedding color palette. Group them together for a spectacular succulent display, or combine them with your favorite blooms to add some fresh flair to your bouquet. The best thing about including succulents in your bouquet actually comes after the wedding is already over. Once the wedding ends you can replant your succulents and they will continue to grow! When all your other wedding flowers are wilting (or being preserved), your succulents will keep going strong. As long as you give them the proper care, you can watch your succulents continue to grow for years to come–just like your love!

Boutonniere

Coordinate with your better half and have him sport a succulent boutonniere on his lapel. Combine a few different types of succulents, like pink sedum and haworthia fasciata, to create an eye-catching display.  Wrap the boutonniere with lace or burlap for a simple, rustic touch. For something a little more daring, combine your succulent with an unconventional accent flower or accessory like a billy button flower or sculpted curly willow branches.
