Black is back and sexier than ever! From subtle additions to a full on black wedding dress, there are several ways to incorporate this fashion staple into your wedding day.
Today, there is no longer the dreaded stigma of wearing a colored wedding dress like there used to be. Although the color black is still a non-traditional color to wear or incorporate into wedding decor, it has gained popularity among modern day and unconventional brides. Here's a look at the different ways black is making a comeback in the wedding fashion industry:
You can't go wrong with a little black dress, right? It seems that more brides today agree that the LBD is a suitable garment for their bridesmaids to walk down the aisle in. Brides understand that it's not inexpensive to be a part of the wedding party, which is why many choose an LBD for their girls to wear because they know the dress has a greater chance of being worn again than a coral or green satin gown. According to The Knot, black dresses are also interpreted as a way to bring formality to the wedding attire. The details of the dress are what transforms the overall look into a vintage or modern vibe. Long or short, a single style or different silhouettes, you can't go wrong with an LBD!
Black diamond engagement rings
It wasn't until Mr. Big gave his wife, Carrie a black diamond in the second installment of the Sex and the City film series that the Carbonado color became increasingly popular among stars on the red carpet and brides-to-be.
The difference between black diamonds and white diamonds is that black diamonds can only be found in two places in the world – Brazil and the Central African Republic. Black diamonds are also composed of small crystals that are bonded together and believed to come from different sources than traditional diamonds, which is also why black diamonds are considered especially rare.
Many brides appreciate the fact that black diamonds have the same amount of strength, if not more than a conventional white stone. Because true black diamonds are so rare, it is important to research the jeweler you plan on purchasing this special jewel from and that the jeweler can offer authentication regarding where the diamond originated. Many brides like the look of the stone in a paved setting surrounded by white diamonds. However, you can also find rings that are designed in a black gold band as well, offering a one-of-a-kind look.
Black wedding dresses
Colored wedding dresses have become increasingly popular in the last few years. Light pink and baby blue dresses were seen on the runway this past April during the 2013 Bridal Fashion Week. Another bold color to hit the runway was black. From accessories and color block designs to full out head-to-toe black, brides are no longer subjected to sticking to a white palette for their wedding day.
In fact, actress Shenea Grimes of the hit TV series "90210," recently said her "I dos" to husband Josh Beech in a black halter wedding gown from designer Vera Wang. The lace bodice was composed of a v-neckline and hit right at the hips before turning into a tulle skirt in various shades of black, grey and white.
The small ceremony included 16 guests with more attendees at the reception. Beech wore a black suit, vest and tie by Yves St. Laurent and a white button down shirt to match Grimes and the rest of the wedding party. This non-traditional ensemble was rocker chic and definitely not for the everyday couple.
