The Life Of The Party, Alstroemeria

Also known as the Peruvian or Inca Lily, Alstroemerias are some of the most beautiful and versatile flowers you can use in your wedding. They are available year round in a vast variety of colors including: white, lavender, purple, pink, magenta, red, peach, orange, yellow, and bi-color. Each stem has a cluster of 4-6 delicate, trumpet-shaped flowers surrounded by long, leafy greenery. Typically two or three of the inner petals of each flower will have a beautiful streaking or freckling pattern in a contrasting color. For example, an orange alstroemeria flower might have peachy undertones with redish highlights on each petal and dark red, nearly brown freckling on the inner petals streaking across a bright yellow background. The overall effect is like a bright and softly fading sunset. The colors on each flower are so masterfully blended, you’d think an artist had meticulously painted each petal by hand!

The artful mix of two or more colors in each alstroemeria bloom makes them the perfect element to blend with any other wedding flowers. Combine yellow alstroemeria with roses for a fresh garden bouquet, or orchids with pink or orange colored alstoesmerias for a more tropical look. Alstromerias carry the meanings of “devotion”, “aspiring”, “wealth”, “fortune”, and “prosperity”, all wonderful sentiments for couples who are setting out to build a brand new life together!

Even with its vibrant coloring, alstroemeria can make a subtle addition to an already colorful bouquet.

They also make for a gorgeous pop of color against neutral tones as in this natural looking green and orange bouquet.

You’ll be hard pressed to find another flower as colorful and unique as the alstroemeria. We highly recommend them as a floral filler, or as a bold pop of color in an otherwise demure color scheme. They are definitely one of our personal favorites!
